Criteria for Selling or Trading Your Vehicle
Wheelchair Accessibility
To sell or trade your vehicle with us, it must be wheelchair accessible. This means the vehicle has been converted or modified to allow a wheelchair to enter and be secured during transportation. Vehicles with only a hitch and trailer for transporting a wheelchair or scooter are not eligible. Commonly, these vehicles are minivans, but we also accept wheelchair accessible trucks and cargo vans.
Vehicle Condition
The vehicle needs to be in reasonable working condition. We cannot accept vehicles that have been in major accidents, have irreparable damage, or have title brandings that would prevent the sale of the vehicle.
Location Requirements
Your vehicle must be located within the continental United States. Unfortunately, we cannot accept vehicles from territories or states such as Puerto Rico and Hawaii at this time.
Next Steps, What to Expect
If you are ready to sell or trade you van to us, there are a few details about your vehicle that we will need before we can make an offer. The three main things we will ask for are the VIN, WAV conversion make/model, and the current mileage. We may have other questions, but those three mentioned are required for us to accurately determine your van’s value. In the next section, we will go into more detail about these three things and how to find them. We highly recommend taking clear pictures of this information to share with us to avoid errors in communication.
Locating & Recording the Required Information About Your Vehicle
VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
This 17-digit alphanumeric code is unique and assigned to every motor vehicle when it’s manufactured. With this code, we can check the history of a used vehicle, including accidents, repairs, and ownership changes. This is commonly known as a vehicle history report.
How to Locate the VIN
- Check the Dashboard:
- Location: The VIN is often found on the lower-left corner of the dashboard, near the windshield.
- Visibility: Stand outside the vehicle and look through the windshield. The VIN should be visible without opening the door.
- Inspect the Driver’s Side Door:
- Location: Open the driver’s side door and look at the door frame or the door jamb.
- Visibility: The VIN is usually on a sticker or metal plate.
- Look Under the Hood:
- Location: Open the hood and check the front of the engine block.
- Visibility: The VIN might be engraved or stamped on the engine.
- Check the Vehicle’s Documents:
- Location: The VIN is listed on the vehicle’s registration, title, and insurance documents.
- Visibility: These documents should be kept in a safe place, like your glove compartment or home office.
- Inspect Other Common Locations:
- Location: The VIN can also be found on the rear wheel well, inside the trunk, or on the frame of the vehicle.
- Visibility: These locations might require more effort to access.
WAV Conversion Make & Model
The wheelchair accessible conversion’s make and model provides general information about the accessible features the vehicle is equipped with. You may already know the branding of your WAV, but if not, the next section provides some tips on how to get that information. Keep in mind that we may also ask if specific accessible equipment and features are included in your WAV, all of which may add extra value to your vehicle.
How to Locate WAV Conversion Manufacturer Information
- Check the Door Frame:
- Open the driver’s side door and look at the door frame or the edge of the door. The manufacturer’s label is often affixed here.
- Inspect the Dashboard:
- Look at the lower part of the dashboard, near the windshield. Some manufacturers place the label here.
- Examine the Rear Hatch:
- If your vehicle has a rear hatch, check the inside edge or frame for the label.
- Look Under the Hood:
- Occasionally, the label might be found under the hood, near the engine compartment.
- Contact the Dealership You Purchased from:
- If you can’t find the manufacturer’s information using the previous steps, the dealership you purchased the WAV from should be able to provide this information to you.
Vehicle Mileage
The mileage on a vehicle is a crucial factor in determining its value when selling or trading it in to a dealer. Generally, lower mileage indicates less wear and tear, which can lead to a higher resale value. Vehicles with higher mileage often show signs of aging and may require more maintenance, reducing their market value. Additionally, lower mileage can be a sign of better overall condition, making the vehicle more attractive to potential buyers and dealers alike. Therefore, keeping mileage in check can significantly impact the trade-in or resale value of your vehicle.
How to Locate the Current Mileage
- Start Your Vehicle:
- Turn on the ignition or start the engine. Ensure the dashboard lights up.
- Locate the Odometer:
- The odometer is typically found on the dashboard, near the speedometer. It displays the total miles your vehicle has traveled.
- Read the Mileage:
- Look at the odometer reading. It will be a series of numbers, usually in a digital or analog format.
- Check the Trip Meter: Some vehicles have a trip meter that can be reset to track mileage for specific trips. Ensure you are reading the main odometer, not the trip meter.
- Record the Mileage:
- Write down the exact number displayed on the odometer. For accuracy, include any decimal points if present.
- For documentation purposes, consider taking a clear photo of the odometer reading. This can be useful when selling or trading in your vehicle.
